But the situation has changed since then, and with the generalization of GNSS, 3G, 4G and now 5G mobile networks, cars, trucks or motorcycles have become real data pools to be transmitted to networks. This vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) or vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) technology can indicate to surrounding vehicles and infrastructures its position, speed, braking and direction, but also to receive messages from other transmitters in order to obtain multiple indications, such as the presence of a nearby emergency vehicle, roadworks, accidents, the closing of a railway crossing, or simply the duration of the green light of a traffic light. This promising technology opens the way to autonomous driving, smoother traffic flow and better protection for the most exposed road users in the future.
