The word “Telematics” is a mix of two words “telecommunications” and “informatics”. it’s a discipline that covers a wide range of usages dedicated to vehicles, such as: tracking, monitoring, safety and remote management. It’s considered as a part of the Internet of Things (IoT) area and concerns a variety of vehicles: cars, two wheelers or motorcycles, trucks, trailers, boats, bicycles, scooters, tractors...

The usage of this data and the connection link in the vehicle permit for example to manage a car or a truck fleet using a management software, to track how a driver drives of if his break times are respected, to track the temperature of a refrigerated load, to know the position of a stolen car, to view the charging state of a battery, to prevent maintenance depending on usage, to manage the rental of a vehicle or even to be able to quickly rescue injured people involved in an accident ( thanks to eCall / ERA GLONASS services based on Telematics). TITAN's expertise in connectivity components has resulted in the development of automotive grade modules that meet the AEC-Q104 standard, with an operating temperature range from -40°c to +85°c. Telematics

The main idea is to share various information to an external platform or to another machine (M2M) using a cellular module or short-range communication modules. The information shared can be a GPS position, a speed, a mileage, a direction, the error codes of an OBU, every information status an engine probe could give, or any other sensor information provided by a vehicle (brakes, proximity of another vehicle etc..).
